The Conferences on Science and Gender have concluded

The afternoon session for the closing ceremony of the Science and Gender Conferences took place in the Grisola room of the Museo de las Ciencias Príncipe Felipe, where during two days different aspects of teaching and researching have been analysed, as well as the diffusion of science from a gender perspective.

The principal of the Universitat de València, Mª Vicenta Mestre, has attended the afternoon session for the closing ceremony of the Science and Gender Conferences, where she has been welcomed by the professor of Astronomy and Atrophysics of the Universitat and member of the organizing comettee, Vicent J. Martínez, and by the director of the preogramme, Míriam Atienza.

 

In her own words, the principal Mª Vicenta Mestre remarked the importance of education since this “is the best instrument to achieve an equal, solidary, sustainable and inclusive society.  Ultimately, to achieve a “better” society.” And remembering the recently disappeared Carmen Alborch, the principal insisted on the idea that “we have the responsability to give example and fight to produce new femenine referents for the new generations.”

 

The Science and Gender Conferences took place during the 4th and 5th of March and helped to give credit for the work of a lot of women in the science and thecnological field through history. Furthermore, the conferences have brought information and referents of successful femenine figures, analysing rooted stereotypes and believes about men and women in the scientific field and presenting new researches regarding this topic.

 

On the other and, on these conferences the gender violence issue has been studied in the Technologies of Information and Communication (TIC) as a relevant aspect in the educational environment. Likewise, strategies to awake scientifit vocations in kids have been presented.
