Opening ceremony ATEI assembly

The 12th ordinary general assembly of the Asociación de las Televisiones Educativas y Cristianas Iberoamericanas (ATEI) was inaugurated at the Aula Magna of La Nau. Many people attended such as the rector of the University of Valencia, Mª Vicenta Mestre; autonomic communications secretary, José Mª Vidal; director of La 2 de Televisión Española, Samuel Martín; president of ATEI, Gabriel Torres; and secretary of the Board of Directors of ATEI and director of the Audio-visual Workshop of the University (TAU), Miquel Francés.

Rector Mª Vicenta Mestre highlighted the link between ATEI and the University of Valencia, because just as public universities, educational televisions play a role in public service that responds to the needs of society. “The spirit of the University holds the transfer and innovation of society, values that are clearly reflected in the activities carried out by ATEI”, said Mestre.

“I hope that this assembly will be a space to reflect on the current challenges presented by the audio-visual, such as the new challenges of the Internet or DTT, but also on the projects and opportunities that are presented due to collaboration between all the members of ATEI” remarked its president, Gabriel Torres.

On his part, the regional secretary of Communication has valued ATEI’s mission of collaboration between the different members. He has also recalled that the reopening of the former autonomic public television Canal 9, now À Punt, “holds a very different philosophy from the previous one, since it is clear in the founding papers that À Punt is forced to work with other operators and universities, as it is already doing”, remarked Jose Mª Vidal.

The ATEI assembly has agreed to strengthen audio-visual co-productions that are strictly dependent on ATEI, such as Noticiero Cultural y Científico, NCC and other series, such as Vidas&Bebidas. In the current assembly, it has been determined to also strengthen the agreements to collaborate in the production of other content.

After this, the documentary “Revelant a Blasco Ibáñez” (Revealing Blasco Ibáñez) was broadcasted internationally. This 52-minute biopic has been directed by José Ángel Montiel, and it tells the main actions and achievements of the character in his historical context. It also shows little or unknown aspects of the writer as he questions his essential motivations.

The documentary includes professors, experts and researchers such as Joan Oleza, Javier Varela, Emilio Sales, Ana María Martínez, Francesc Martínez, Antonio Laguna, José Antonio Piqueras, Rosa Ana Gutiérrez, Román Gubern and Javier Lluch-Prats, who give their vision of the character. “Revelant a Blasco Ibáñez” has also counted with the collaboration of the Generalitat Valenciana, the National University of Mar del Plata (Argentina) and the coordination and production of the TAU.

ATEI aims to contribute to the development in education, science and Iberoamerican culture through the use of television and other information and communication technologies. The ATEI network of partners is currently made up of 107 institutions, including public service television channels (national, regional and local), ministries and organizations responsible for education and culture at the national, regional or local level in each country, universities or institutions of higher education and postgraduate, foundations and social and cultural NGOs and centres of permanent and professional training.
