Signing the agreement

The Principal of the Universitat de València, Mª Vicenta Mestre, together with the president of the Savings Account and the Mont de Pietat d'Ontiyent ‘Caixa Ontinyent’, Antonio Carbonell, has signed an agreement for the study and formalisation of the procedures and publications referred to the social responsibility of the financial entity.

The agreement is classified inside the Llei de la Generalitat Valenciana 18/2018 of the 13th of July for the encouragement of social responsibility, developing the GRI (Global Reportive Initiative) international standard for this matter.

Thus, the study facilitates the documentation about the policites and the procedures of Caixa Ontinyent, focused on the development of its social corporative responsibility project, disseminating the support of value to the savings bank in order to contribute to a more sustainable development. The ultimate objective will be the encouragement of these types of actions from a social and ecological point of view.

Principal Mª Vicenta Mestre, who has thanked Caixa Ontinyent for choosing the Universitat for this research, has pointed out that the university ‘ is always open to collaborations with socioeconomic sectors that work towards the innovation and modernisation of the social and productive network, which considers environmental protection, labour laws, social integration, good governmental practices, encouragement of cooperation towards development, fair trade...’

On his behalf, president Antonio Carbonell has reminded us the close relation between Caixa Ontinyent and the Universitat, specially through Ontinyent Campus. Carbonell has claimed that ‘the financial instution is growing and has a geographic expansion wish, but we want to make it right. This is why we want to foster social responsibility’.

Others have attended the ceremony, like the Vice-Principal for Innovation and Transfer, Mª Dolores Real; the lecturer in Applied Economics of the Universitat, Antoni Seguí; the head of Secretary and Social Work of Caixa Ontinyent, Vicente Ortiz; and the director of Caixa Ontinyent in Valencia, Dolores Peñuelas.

Caixa Ontinyent was founded in 1884 at the town it receives the name from in the region of La Vall d’Albaida, and works in the regions of the south of Valencia and the north of Alicante, with several offices in Valencia. Currently, it’s one of the only two saving banks remaining in Spain (and the only one in the Valencian Community) after the reorganisation of the Spanish financial system. As a savings bank, its propierty belongs to society in general. For this reason, is the only Valencian financial entity that reverts its benefits to community by carrying out social work.
