Professor Mavi Mestre will become the first female Principal of the Universitat de València in the history

The Electoral Board of the University published the final results of the Principal Election, won by professor Mª Vicenta Mestre, PhD.

She won at the second runoff elections held on Tuesday 6 of March.

She obtained 52.98% of the pondered vote in the runoff elections held on Tuesday 6 of March. Vicent J. Martínez got 47.02%.

Mavi Mestre was born in Oliva. She is a professor in Basic Psychology at the Universitat de València. She graduated in Philosophy and Sciences of Education, and specialised in Psychology and Sciences of Education. She was given the National prize to the best scholarship holders and the Extraordinary Prize of Degree.  She got a doctorate in Psychology and obtained an extraordinary award.

She is specialist in adolescents in risk and family. She teaches these matters in some Undergraduate and Master’s Degrees at the Universitat de València and other Spanish and International universities. Her teaching activity has been recognized with six quinquennia.

Her researching activity is focused on social inclusion and the quality of life of teenagers and young people. As a director of a research group, she has been the main researcher in competitive projects. Among these projects, a PROMETEO project with the University of Missouri and the CONICET of Buenos Aires stand out. Currently, she is working in PROMETEO on “socioemotional and personal competence to prevent misfit conduct”.  She has written more than 160 articles in national and international magazines, 23 books and 49 chapters of other books.  She has tutored 16 doctoral theses. She is a member of the International Association of Applied Psychology, the Sociedad Interamericana de Psicología, the Management Board of the Sociedad de Ansiedad y Estrés and the Sociedad Española de Historia de la Psicología. Her research activity has been recognised with six six-year-period bonuses of research.

She is committed with change at the University. She was secretary of department, Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, Vice-Dean of Studies and Vice-Dean of Academic Organisation, Teaching staff and Sustainability of the Universitat de València.
