The Burjassot-Paterna Campus of the University of Valencia is one of the most involved in the use and promotion of sustainable transportation. Now, in addition to the already established initiatives, such as the use of bicycles or public transport, a new proposal has been added: carpooling.
The campus is one of the priority points of the 'Valencia Carpooling' initiative to which the University of Valencia has joined. The campus is one of the six major hubs of the application within the metropolitan area, with the aim of promoting smoother and more sustainable mobility. The tool allows for savings, reduces traffic jams and emissions, and facilitates more efficient travel to and from the campus.
'Valencia Comparte Coche' is a project promoted by the Generalitat that the University has joined so that students and staff of the academic institution can share vehicles easily and safely. The Burjassot Campus, one of the main centers of academic and scientific activity in the metropolitan area, has been selected as one of the first areas where the application is already fully operational.
Benefits
Participation in this initiative brings various benefits both for the users and for the entire community. First of all, it allows for economic savings, since, thanks to the TRIBBU Energy Voucher (with the support of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition), drivers can recover money on each shared trip. Secondly, a greater number of shared vehicles reduces queues during peak hours, which decreases congestion. Lastly, parking problems are reduced, as sharing optimises the use of spaces.
The app allows users to verify their identity, match drivers and passengers with corresponding routes, and calculate the positive environmental impact of each shared trip. Additionally, it incorporates an economic incentive through the state system of Energy Savings Certificates, which allows people providing the car to receive 0.04 euros per kilometre and passenger, translating to an average of between 100 and 200 euros per month. Therefore, it is important that drivers and passengers have the Energy Voucher activated in the app since the Ministry for the Ecological Transition (MITECO) subsidises this mobility where the passenger pays nothing and the driver is compensated for the cost of the trip, according to the conditions of the voucher.
Additionally, the app verifies the identity of each person and allows users to check reviews from other users.
How the app works
The app's functionality is very intuitive. You need to access the Universitat de València app and, from the menu, go to the Transportation section. Among the available options, you need to select 'Share' (car icon). From this moment on, you need to download the application.
Once installed, you need to select the role and preferences, register with your phone number, and enter the SMS verification code.
Afterwards, you can complete the personal profile data and add the ID to activate the Energy Voucher. From the beginning, you need to access the menu and select 'My university' to search for the University of Valencia. Finally, you need to enter the institutional email and verify the account.
How it affects users
One of the main attractions of Tribbu for users is, above all, the economic savings. To access the benefits, you need to ensure that the energy savings certificate is activated in the app to receive discounts on each trip.
To validate each trip, both the driver and the passenger must scan the same QR code generated by the driver. At the end of the trip, the passenger must close it before the driver.
To improve efficiency, it is recommended that each user publish their recurring or occasional trips, indicating the days, routes, and schedules. Tribbu also allows users to choose with whom they want to share a car, by checking profiles and using the integrated chat. Additionally, trips can be easily saved using QR codes to facilitate future journeys and increase savings.
Expociencia
In anticipation of the upcoming Expociència 2026, to be held on Saturday, May 9th at the University of Valencia Science Park and the Higher Technical School of Engineering (ETSE-UV), we want to reinforce our commitment to sustainability by incorporating initiatives that promote more responsible mobility.
Under the motto “Caring with science: understanding each other to live better,” Expociència focuses on people's well-being, health, and respect for the environment. In this context, it is not only important what we share, but also how we travel to participate in the event.
Therefore, the University of Valencia Science Park has joined the Valencia Shares Car project, promoted by the Valencian Government, an initiative that encourages carpooling as a more efficient and sustainable alternative.
Going to work or attending events alone involves higher resource consumption and an environmental impact that we can all reduce. This initiative also offers direct benefits:
💵 Energy bonus: receive €0.04/km per passenger on each shared trip.
🚗 Less congestion: more full cars mean less traffic during peak hours.
🅿️ More parking availability: we optimize the use of space.
