Missión

Our mission is to offer administrative support to the University's Research Institutes.

Objectives

The objective is the economic and administrative management of projects, agreements and contracts of researchers affiliated to the University Research Institutes at the Burjassot – Paterna Campus, as well as the management of the general facilities of the buildings and the spaces where the Institutes are located.

Services

The most important peculiarity is that the Institutes do not have assigned administrative and service staff (except laboratory staff), and that the entire administrative staff is assigned to the Unit, unlike in the Departments and the Centres, which have their own staff.

It is also worth highlighting that the economic management is focused on the research area; since the Institutes are devoted primarily to research tasks.

Another singularity is that the Unit offers support to seven Institutes and two ERIs (Estructure of Recerche Interdisciplinary) and in addition the Singular Centre: University’s Astronomic Observatory.

The ordinary operation of the Unit is based on the specific management of each Institute, but management is coordinated, directed and supervised by the Unit, which is directly responsible for it.

The Unit is in charge of the correct allocation of the expenses generated by the researchers to the relevant projects, agreements and contracts. It has a fixed cash account, to meet the needs of researchers in the development of their work.

It is also in charge of the ordinary operation of buildings and spaces. Opening the door every day means meeting the needs of cleaning, security, facilities maintenance, power supplies, water, etc.

The type of clients of the Unit are: university professors and/or researchers, research support staff, predoctoral and postdoctoral students and University providers.

The staff affiliated to the University consists of 3 heads of unit, 13 administratives Management, 2 services personal (Coordinator and assistant) who develop their functions in the following major areas of work:

  • Direct attention to the Institutes; collegiate and personal organs
  • Coordination, monitoring and management of direct expenditure reports.
  • Processing of fixed cash, reconciliation and accountability records.
  • Mail, concierge and information services, and assistance to visitors and suppliers.
  • Maintenance of buildings and facilities.
  • Coordination and overall supervision.

Our methods are the result of the application of new information technologies and communication. The distribution of information is mostly done through the computer network, as well as the ordinary operation, which is based on computerised means. However, all these methods are not substitutes for personal contact with customers (users), a fundamental relationship of a support service like ours, but tools that make work easier.

The use of e-mail, both individually and in mailing lists, is a fundamental tool in communicating with researchers and/or the people responsible for the research groups.

Main Services

The main services or products are the economic management of the projects, agreements and contracts of researchers, as well as the management of the budgets of the Institutes. In the future, it will depend on research funding. If the funding mechanisms change, it will be necessary to adapt to the changes.

The user groups, may establish depending on its research responsability.

  • A differentiated user group are the researchers managing projects, agreements and contracts. They are in charge of authorising the expenses, and deciding who to provide the technical assistance they may need, including in this group the Directors of the Institutes.
  • Another more heterogeneous group is the staff that collaborates in a project, agreement and contract, where professors of the University to scholarship students meet.
  • More user groups depending on the service that provide are distinguished.
  • A group formed by the different providers and suppliers of services that in relationship with the institutes.
  • A group formed by the citizens in general that request information over all.
  • A group formed by the own staff of the Unit that, aside from providing services, they also are provided with services.
  • By last, a user group formed by the companies that collaborate in the Scientific Park.
