Showing of the documentary 'La batalla del Varsòvia' (The history of a Tolouse hospital founded by exiled republicans. With the participation of Juli Esteve and Àlvar Martínez, sriptwriters and directors of the Documentary. Antonio Ariño, Vice-principal for Culture.
In September 1944, Spanish republican militia who had fought in France against Hitler, launched an attack against Franco called 'Operación Reconquista' (Reconquest Operation) and occupied the Aran Valley. In Tolosa, in the rearguard, they founded a hospital to see the injured. The offensive fell through, but that war hopsital, renamed Varsovia, became civil and was during many years the reference for the 150.000 exiled at the other side of the Pirineo mountains. After nearly seven decades of illusions, efforts and vissicitudes, the hospital has reached our days. The egalitarian vocation and the social medicine principles have been kept unharmed since its creation. 'La Batalla del Varsovia' includes narratives of those 1939 refugees and survivors or their descendants, from families of the French doctos who helped republicans and experts in the field.
