The Research Unit on Social Psychology of Organisational Behaviour (UNIPSICO) is group for basic and applied scientific research of the University of Valencia.
It is located in the Department of Social Psychology (Faculty of Psychology), and is directed by Prof. Peter R. Gil Monte.
It was created to study and to solve problems related to the completion of work and human resources management in work organisations.
Today it is devoted to the study of the processes and variables involved in the onset and development of psychosocial risks at work, paying special attention to work-related stress, psychological harassment (mobbing) and burnout, to design intervention strategies aimed at improving the quality of the work life of professionals and workers in general. The intervention on these processes will reduce accidents and absenteeism, as well as staff costs derived from these incidents. This line of research is connected with the need to develop training and intervention plans for the prevention of occupational risks in organisations, as reflected in the current Law on Prevention of Occupational Risks (B.O.E. 10-11-1995), and the Regulations for Prevention Services (B.O.E. 31-1-1997).
On the other hand we intend to analyse the organisation as a socially constructed reality and analyse some of the most relevant psychosocial processes that contribute to the formation of the organisation’s culture and climate. For this, we will research on the cognitions, emotions and attitudes of the organisation groups, comparing the phenomena and processes at different organisational levels and developing cognitive maps of organisational processes. The results are intended to improve management and decision-making in the organisation.
