This session proposes a historical review aimed at identifying and analyzing disturbances induced by human activity in ecological, social, economic, linguistic, technological systems, etc. Paradigmatic cases of resilience, adaptation, irreversibility and collapse will be presented, examining the causes, response mechanisms and consequences at different scales. The aim is to show how the study of historical precedents can contribute to the formulation of predictive models and to the planning of more effective responses to future disruptive events.
Barona will talk about the relationships between human societies and diseases, referring to some critical examples in history.
The session will take place in the Pere and Joan Corominas Room of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans, Calle del Carme 47, 08001 Barcelona and can be followed online.
