Materials for March 8th.
Sabers en acció offers a new journey through the history of science, technology and medicine based on the most recent perspectives and the conclusions of the latest research. It is a blog of more than 200 short texts, images and indicative bibliography. The editorial team, made up of specialists from a wide range of universities and research centres, presents new, often surprising stories by critically describing new characters, spaces and objects. Heroic images, foundational myths, the role of geniuses, eureka moments, and crucial experiments are critically reviewed. It shows that science is a collective enterprise in which many people have participated, many of them invisible or marginalized within traditional narratives. It recovers the memory of many forgotten spaces within science textbooks and offers keys to reading images, spaces, objects, models, formulas and diagrams with historical perspective.
Logically, the protagonists of many chapters of Knowledge in Action are women, more or less known or invisible, from Hypatia to Rosalind Franklin. This offers tools to reconsider the activities and spaces where many anonymous women created knowledge of all kinds and put it into action with original perspectives. There is also a lot of relevant information to study gender biases throughout history, barriers to access to higher education at different times, and women's strategies for developing careers in science.
