Adventure in the Hospital, an interactive virtual tour of La Fe to reduce anxiety in paediatric patients before surgery

  • November 18th, 2025
Adventure in the Hospital will help children cope with the hospital experience.

The interactive application Adventure in the Hospital will help children who are about to undergo surgery at the Hospital Universitari i Politècnic La Fe to face the hospital experience in a more relaxed and playful way. It consists of a game available on a web platform where users drive a vehicle through the different areas of the health centre they will visit before surgery. The aim is to reduce anxiety about the unknown among younger patients and minimise the psychological impact that an operation can have on them.

The Paediatric Section of the Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation Service at La Fe Hospital designed the initiative with the support of the Citizen Services Department, and the Institute on Robotics and Information and Communication Technologies (IRTIC) at the University of Valencia was responsible for its development. In addition, the project has received funding from the Aladina Foundation, an organisation committed to improving the quality of life of hospitalised children.

Thanks to immersive 360-degree images, the application facilitates familiarisation with the real environment by creating the impression of playing inside the hospital itself. Through play and virtual exploration, children face simple challenges and interactive tests that allow them to advance and complete different circuits ranging from admission to the operating theatre, passing through the preparation and recovery areas.

This promotes a more positive and personalised experience for both patients and their families. With this initiative, La Fe Hospital reaffirms its commitment to humanising paediatric healthcare and technological innovation in the service of patients' emotional well-being.

The application is available on the hospital's website.
