The LISITT group at the Institute on Robotics and Information and Communications Technologies (IRTIC) of the University of Valencia has implemented the new eTRAFFIC application as part of the maintenance and modernization of the systems of the Telematics for Mobility Division of the Directorate General for Traffic (DGT), which has been carried out over the last four years. This application displays incidents and road conditions graphically on a map with real-time accuracy, updating the information every minute.
The tool is fully optimized to ensure optimal display on any type of mobile device, and users can select which types of incidents they wish to view, tailoring the information to their needs. With a single click, users can view the most relevant information associated with each incident on the map, which also provides access to the latest captured images from the cameras installed along the road network.
eTRAFFIC displays the messages currently shown on the road network’s information boards and is available in all the country’s official languages, as well as English and French. The interface also includes a button to center the map on the user’s current location.
Furthermore, in addition to incorporating data provided by the sensors and equipment installed by the DGT on the roads and information from the Civil Guard’s traffic patrols, the app also includes incident reports provided by social media apps and other external sources of traffic information, once these have been confirmed by the operators.
