The special issue «Artificial Intelligence and Big Earth Observation Data for Sustainable Development Goals» of the international scientific journal Remote Sensing, about said topic, features as guest editors researchers from the Institute on Robotics and Information and Communication Technologies (IRTIC) at the University of Valencia (UV) David García Rodríguez, José Javier Samper Zapater and Juan José Martínez Durá, PhDs from the Integrated Laboratory for Intelligent Systems and Traffic Information Technologies (LISITT).
The use of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, geospatial analytics, and interoperable data frameworks for exploiting Big Earth Observation data in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are some of the topics relating to advances in remote sensing that this issue aims to bring together. The call for papers is open until 31 March 2027, and articles should be submitted via the journal’s website.
In this regard, contributions may address methodological developments, operational applications, validation strategies, approaches to data that is findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable (FAIR), semantic interoperability, multi-source data fusion, cloud-based processing, and decision-support tools
The editors particularly welcome studies demonstrating how remote sensing and geospatial technologies can contribute to environmental monitoring, climate resilience, agriculture, water resources, biodiversity, urban sustainability, and other SDG-related challenges.
The manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere, except conference proceedings papers. To submit them, interested parties must register and log in to the MDPI platform.
Research articles, review articles and short communications are accepted.
Remote Sensing (ISSN 2072-4292) publishes research articles, reviews, technical notes and communications covering various aspects of remote sensing science, ranging from sensor design, validation and calibration to their applications in geosciences, environmental sciences, ecology and civil engineering.
