Road accidents are events, mostly avoidable, that cause physical and psychological damage or even death to thousands of people every year. Although there are many causes that generate them, the so-called "Human Factor" is present in more than 90% of them.

One of the most serious accidents that can occur are those caused by vehicles that mistakenly enter high-capacity roads in the same direction, but in the opposite direction to the main flow (known as "kamikaze drivers").

INTRAS and the company SEOFER, through the SEOFER Chair of Road Safety and Intelligent Mobility, propose a knowledge transfer project to design a new easy-to-install device that can be applied throughout the national and international territory to try to act on the problems described.

Premises:

• The new solution shall be adaptable to the peri-urban environment, considering different scenarios, with an attractive design and low visual impact that facilitates its installation.
• The new solution should generate confidence in the approaching user by circulating correctly, but at the same time should try to stop the vehicle approaching in the opposite direction of travel.
• The new solution, in addition to being innovative, should integrate sustainable or low environmental impact materials to achieve the expected functionalities.

Activities:

1. Feasibility study. Similar patents
2. Preliminary system design: geometry and materials
3. Drafting and revision of the patent application proposal.
4. Market study of similar systems
5. Final design of the prototype
6. Drafting of the conclusions report and updating of the patent dossier.
7. Preliminary work prior to manufacturing and testing of the new system

This project is funded on the basis of the APOTI call (aid for hiring support staff) of the Department of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society of the Valencian Gobernment (CIAPOT/2022/26), co-funded by the SEOFER Chair of Road Safety and Intelligent Mobility.
