"Rafael López Lita 2022 Award" to the SEOFER Chair in Road Safety and Intelligent Mobility

The Association for the Development of Communication (adComunica) has awarded the Rafael López Lita 2022 Prize, in the category of New Initiatives in Communication, to the SEOFER Chair in Road Safety and Intelligent Mobility.

The presentation of the award for New Initiatives in Communication, sponsored by the Castellón City Council, took place on 29 September 2022 at the Almazora City Hall, where the Castellón councillor, José Luis López, presented the award to Salvador Rodríguez Troyano, general manager of SEOFER (Señalizaciones y Obras Fernández), for his initiative "SEOFER Chair of Road Safety and Intelligent Mobility", implemented by the Research Institute on Traffic and Road Safety (INTRAS) of the University of Valencia.

The jury recognises the communication work of the Chair, the core of all its actions, which are aimed at disseminating connected mobility and the advances that promote safe behaviour, prevent risks, promote environmental conservation, save lives and improve people's quality of life.

AdComunica is a non-profit organisation promoted by university professors, communication directors of private companies and media managers from Castellón that is dedicated to the promotion and development of communication in all its aspects.

Prof. Dr Francisco Alonso, director of the INTRAS, received the medal from the Minister of the Interior, after a commentary speech delivered by full professor of Road Safety Dr. Luis Motoro.

This medal is delivered as an acknowledgment of the INTRAS's long and flawless trajectory during its more than 25 years of history and constant activities in the field of road safety, traffic, mobility and transportation.

The granting of this distinction comes in recognition of its 25 years of history in which they have developed almost 400 research projects in the field of road safety, traffic, mobility and transport for administrations and national and international companies; published 140 books, more than 250 scientific articles in specialized journals, have directed and conducted more than 63 doctoral theses and received more than 25 awards in recognition of their scientific and training work.

Minister Grande-Marlaska, in his speech, thanked INTRAS for its involvement in road safety, alluding to the fact that, in its more than 25 years of history, it has promoted research, development and innovation in this field, also highlighting its essential role in the field of teaching and specialized training.

INTRAS has received, from ITS Spain, the recognition to the Best ITS Spain supplier for the technical-administrative support in C-Roads.

The ITS Spain 2020 awards have been delivered at the Closing Ceremony of the XX Spanish Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems held from July 14 to 16, 2020 in Madrid

C-Roads Spain is composed of 5 pilots, each one of them with its particular set of technologies and C-ITS services and with the participation of different partners, among them INTRAS. This heterogeneity aims to cover a wide spectrum of cases, in order to assess the impact of connected mobility in many representative scenarios.

C-Roads Spain is part of the C-Roads Platform, a joint initiative of European Member States and road operators for testing and implementing C-ITS services in light of cross-border harmonisation and interoperability.

The Institute of National Transit and Land Transport (INTRANT) of the Dominican Republic has received the ITS Spain 2020 Award.

At the Closing Ceremony of the XX Spanish Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems held from July 14 to 16, 2020 in Madrid, the ITS Spain 2020 Award was presented to the project "Interoperability of the electronic collection of the Integrated Public Transport System of Santo Domingo -Metropolitan Office of Bus Services, Metro and Teleferico- and implementation of the SD GO electronic card through a technological standard and a central payment system", carried out by INTRANT with the technical and financial support of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The project is related to the collaboration agreement for training, research and advisory activities signed between INTRANT and INTRAS.

GENERAL COUNCIL OF INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS AND LABOR SCIENCES (CGRICT)

The General Council of Industrial Relations and Labor Sciences, (CGRICT), has awarded INTRAS the Prever 2019 Award in its Road Safety Category, by virtue of the merits contracted for its work in favor of the implementation and dissemination of the prevention of occupational hazards.

This General Council has been awarding annually, since 1998, national and international prevention awards called PREVER, whose purpose is to reward different professionals, companies or entities that stand out for their work for the prevention of occupational hazards inside and outside Spain.

The awarding of this award was made during the 21st Technical Conference on Occupational Risk Prevention and Social Responsibility, (National and International Prevention Awards "Prever 2019") that have been held on February 28 and 29, 2020 in Ciudad Real, and was collected by Dr. Luis Montoro, a member of this Institute and Professor of Road Safety.

Dr. Cristina Esteban, Secretary of INTRAS and researcher of the DATS research group, has received the Woman and Traffic Management Award in its 4th edition, at the ceremony that took place on November 21 in Madrid.

The Women and Traffic Management Awards, organized by the Association of Traffic Engineers and Mobility Technicians, are focused on recognizing the work of those women who, from the Administration, the University and the private Enterprise, have worked intensely for the traffic and, in particular, to promote Traffic Engineering in Spain.

Dr. Francisco Alonso, Director of INTRAS and the DATS research group, has received the IG Nobel Peace Prize, from the Nobel Prize in Medicine 2017 scientist Michael Rosbash, at the 28th First Annual Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony held at Harvard University. September 13, 2018, for his research reflected in the scientific article "Shouting and Cursing While Driving: Frequency, Reasons, Perceived Risk and Punishment”

Cristina Esteban, Andrea Serge, Maria-Luisa Ballestar, Jaime Sanmartín, Constanza Calatayud, and Beatriz Alamar have also been awarded as co-authors of the scientific article and/or the research on which it is based: "La Justicia en el Tráfico: Conocimiento y Valoración de la Población Española"("Justice in Traffic: Knowledge and Valuation of the Spanish Population")

SPANISH ASSOCIATION OF THE ROAD (AEC)

Dr. Francisco Alonso, Director of INTRAS and the DATS research group, has been awarded the Road Medal of Honor for the merits acquired during his professional life, at an event held on June 7.

In his double facet of professor and researcher for 30 years, Dr. Francisco Alonso has treated the accident rate from theory and science. Psychologist of formation, began his trajectory in the Unit of Investigation in Psychology of the Traffic in the University of Valencia. From here, he encouraged and promoted the creation of the Institute he now runs, a center that is a national reference in terms of traffic and road safety. But his works, far from being reduced to the theoretical field, have always had a clear practical aspect. It has contributed, for example, to the signaling of the accident concentration sections, the reform of the Criminal Code or the development of numerous regulations and regulations in Spain and in other countries. As a researcher, he has participated or directed more than 160 projects for administrations, institutions and companies. All this work can only be justified, according to those who know it well, by motivation and the illusion of fulfilling a moral duty that aims to save lives.

Dr. Francisco Alonso, Director of the DATS research group, has been awarded the Professional Merit Cross of the Municipal Police of Madrid, in recognition of his constant and fluid cooperation with the City Council and with the Municipal Police of Madrid in defense of the legitimate interests of citizens.

On the occasion of the celebration of the Patron of the Municipal Police Force, Saint John Baptist, it is a tradition to recognize the work of those people and institutions that have stood out in a relevant way for their collaboration and special relationship with the Municipal Police of Madrid, in an Act of Tribute that this year has been held on June 24.

The First Vice-President of the Government and Minister of Home Affairs, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, has given the Medal of Merit for Road Safety in the category of Silver and Blue to Audi in recognition of the social activity (the Attitudes programmeme) developed over the last ten years in the fields of education and road safety .

Audi's director, Manuel Caballero, collected the award and was very grateful for this award and considers it an honor and an encouragement to continue the social work that the brand has developed with the aim of contributing to increased road awareness in our society.

The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, and the Director General of Traffic, Pere Navarro, have highlighted in their speeches Audi's commitment to road safety and their contribution to the reduction of traffic accidents through the work of social awareness developed by Attitudes in recent years.

The granting of this award coincides with the celebration of the 10th anniversary of Attitudes, the Corporate Social Responsibility programme that Audi created in 2000 in order to help reduce road accidents on our roads. A commitment that the brand has maintained in its dual role: as an automobile manufacturer , researching and incorporating the latest technology to create safer vehicles, and as a responsible company, promoting road safety through its social initiative .

Among other actions taken by Attitudes in those 10 years of activity, one highligth can be the courses given by Traffic Schools for more than 50,000 children from different Spanish cities. Also the organization of nine editions of "Days of Reflection" on road safety issues, with the completion of 16 research projects and collaboration of more than 300 experts from national and international institutions.

On 1 December, FUNDACIÓN MAPFRE received the Medal of Merit in Road Safety in the category of Silver and Blue Badge, which has been awarded by the Ministry of Home Affairs for 36 years in order to recognise the partnership’s commitment and contribution to social awareness and the fight against road accidents.

In the case of FUNDACIÓN MAPFRE, this award recognizes the work done by the Institute on Road Safety to promote road safety education through courses, research studies, information campaigns and free distribution of educational materials. It also values its involvement in the development of road safety measures and campaigns, based on the values of social engagement, training, communication, cooperation and innovation, especially in Latin America.

Filomeno Mira, Vice President of FUNDACIÓN MAPFRE, got this award from the First Vice-President of the Government and Minister of Home Affairs, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba. The event, held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Home Affairs in Madrid, was also attended by José Luis Catalinas, director of FUNDACIÓN MAPFRE; Julio Laria, CEO of the Institute on Road Safety of FUNDACIÓN MAPFRE (pictured on the right); and Juan José Almagro, CEO of Social Communication and Responsibility of MAPFRE, among others.

The Medal of Merit for Road Safety was established in 1974 due to increased road traffic and the need to enhance security, harmony and fluidity of movement by all users of public roads. This award notes that “in the same way that illegal behaviours are punished, we must honour or reward behaviours that contribute to road safety, help to preserve it or constitute a commendable example for others”.

Línea Directa Insurance has awarded the Solidarity Award in Road Safety Insurance to the Institute of Traffic and Road Safety (INTRAS), in recognition for the social awareness work developed by this organization, being a pioneer in Spain in the application of scientific research in traffic and road safety.

Award for best published work on road safety, one of the three modes listed in the fifteenth edition of Road Safety Award Barcelona M. Angels Jiménez in the category of Best informative work on road safety.

In the category of Best informative work on road safety, the jury chose the communication campaign: "The street is also mine . Children , cities and road safety " of ATTITUDES, AUDI Social Initiative from the Institute of Traffic and Road Safety at the University of Valencia for being an information campaign based on the results of a study that analyses the travel habits and influences the improvement of road safety education for children and their families .

Promoted by the City Council , in collaboration with the RACC , the association P (A) T and the insurance company AXA Assegurances, the goal of that award is to promote research and disseminate experiences or projects for urban road safety education.

The Occupational Traffic Risk Prevention Simulation, PREVISIM-SICAM has been recognised with the "Special Award for Training and Application of New Technologies in Occupational Health and Safety", awarded in 2007 by the Valencian Foundation for the Prevention of Labour Risks.

As pointed out by Román Ceballos "it will allow transportation professionals to be aware of increased risk and to stimulate an attitude change. Also, to have the possibility of adapting the contents of the simulator to changing situations in the work environment, the special characteristics of the company and what the various laws or guidelines dictate."

INTRAS has obtained the second prize for "University-Business Collaboration” for the collaboration between INTRAS and AUMAR Company, in the context of university-society awards granted by the Board of Trustees of the University of Valencia.

Since 1992 AUMAR and INTRAS established a line of continuous collaboration for the development of a series of studies, researches, and actions for improving security in the Autopista del Mare Nostrum (A7), which is held by the concession AUMAR.

The aim of the collaboration has been, among others, the study of accidents and incidents on the highways, as well as research on the alertness level involved in driving and risk perception, in order to subsequently develop a set of measures and actions to improve road safety on the highway and roads where traffic is safer and those where the accidents are mostly explained by the human factor. No doubt that this line of study and research developed between AUMAR and INTRAS has had a social impact that transcends the boundaries of university-industry cooperation.

At the annual meeting of IBTTA (International Bridge, Tunnel & Turnpike Association), held in Halifax (Canada), an award has been given to the ALERT study (Factors and Intervention Strategies for Driver Alertness Levels on Highway ), which was developed by INTRAS (Institute of Traffic and Road Safety ) of the University of Valencia commissioned by AUMAR (Autopistas del Mare Nostrum ).

The IBBTA, with members in five continents and headquarters in Washington DC, is a prestigious global association representing companies and firms involved in building bridges, tunnels and toll roads.

Each year, at its annual meeting, they give a set of awards for research that are considered to be creative and innovative and that serve to improve traffic flow, environmental conditions, road safety, etc.
