CONSULTING PROJECTS

This is an important typology of projects done by DATS group: Consulting for administrations, institutions and corporations, either public or private.

The main feature of the consultancy is the diversity of our work, each one with a common factor: Giving an efficient answer to the customer’s needs.

Those needs materialize on objectives as diverse as the resolution of particular problems related to road safety and Corporative Social Marketing campaigns.

The main advantage of this kind of typology is that it allows working on either diverse or complementary aspects, modifying them in the course of their development, allowing for adaptation to specific needs that arise in the present changing world.

As part of these consultancies, there are many actions that have been developed, but mostly have attended the strategic framework, the public position and the search of global and integral solutions.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH PROJECTS

Scientific research, as a fountain of knowledge, is one of the main objectives of the universities. Scientific research works have an important place in DATS research group, with a common factor: Contribute to a raise in the knowledge on the field of road safety.

The theme range has been wide, with themes such as main factors (human factor, road, city, vehicles, etc) risk factors(distractions), risk groups(children, youth, older people, etc), and psychological elements(behaviours, attitudes, perceptions, thoughts, motivations, etc).

Another important feature of the group’s research has been the diversity of methodologies used by them(documental, population, observational, experimental, statistical, content analysis, etc.). Those methodologies have been chosen regarding the objectives and the project’s goals.

DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

Development projects are also one of the objectives of the university, in the field of the traditional R&D. In these projects the objective is to move the result of the researches for the development of measures, interventions and programs that contribute to a reduction of road accidents.

Development projects have created the necessity of producing materials, devices, procedures, and/or new services.

Some of the examples are informatics applications oriented to training, audiovisual material, driver selection tests, etc.

INNOVATION PROJECTS

Innovation projects are another of the university’s main challenges, on the already extended field of R&D+I. The results of efficient and viable prototypes developed by DATS group, have been technological investments likely to be produced and sold, due to the acceptance of some products and/or services.

Some examples are the new driving simulators and new driver selection systems.

TRAINING PROJECTS

Complementary to this, another of the research group activities has been the development of training projects. Besides traditional teaching, training is another of the basic pillars of the university’s work, which responds to one of the general social needs and particularly society’s responsibility for the economy.

Not surprisingly, the accumulation of the scientific research, development and innovation achievements has its own reflection on the formative actions of those who can find our work very useful, either personally or professionally.

In this sense, the formation done by this group attends to diverse people and collectives(professionals, workers, etc.) from different sectors(professional, general users, etc.). Depending on the previous groups we have determined the requirements and the way and recognition grade of the diverse formative actions.

DIVULGATION PROJECTS

One of the most important activities of the group has been divulgation, according to two rules of the university actions: the necessary divulgation of the science by using scientific channels (congresses, scientific magazines, etc) and the divulgation to professionals and the whole society by using mass media. It is obvious that scientific divulgation allows to empowering and raising the global knowledge of the scientific community.

The general diffusion is very important to road safety, allowing to generally contribute to the people’s awareness, to increase their risk perception, and lastly to change towards safer attitudes and behaviours.
