Description:

The Valencian Brotherhood (1519-1522) represents a key moment of our history. The new king’s arrival from foreign lands, the anti-seigniorial revolts, the fact of emerging from new urban social classes demanding involvement in public life, an ending world (medieval) and another one beginning (the Modern Era). The phenomenon isn’t uniquely confined to Valencia, but it also spreads over various cities and villages of our territory. Villages such as Sant Mateu, Vinaròs, Peñíscola, Oropesa, Vila- real, Burriana, Almenara, Sagunto, Llíria, Alzira, Gandia, Xàtiva, Ontinyent, Alcoy, Elche, Alicante, Orihuela, etc. were the protagonists of these successes. 2019 marked the 500th anniversary of the Valencian Brotherhood.

With this exhibition composed by 30 panels made by twenty researchers from the Faculty of Geography and History, the Universitat de València sought to participate in the commemoration and review of this ephemeris.

The exhibition will remain open in Gandia until the 30th of April and will then tour throughout the Valencian territory, stopping in Alaquàs and Ontinyent, among other municipalities.
