Place: Centro Cultural La Nau

Description:

Narrated from a singular and heartbreaking voice in 1st person, La mala costumbre goes through the adolescence of a girl that is trapped in a body she doesn’t know how to inhabit, that tries to understand herself and the world she lives in, from her childhood in a working class family in the San Blas district, the devastated by heroin in the 80s, to the clandestine nights in the centre of Madrid in the 90s. Like a bastard version of the hero's journey, drug addicts, pop divas and fallen angels that go along with her during a vital journey in which, in the end, it will be other women who will help her exceed violence that she comes across with with each step.

La mala costumbre is a raw and ferocious novel, but also poetic and moving, in which extremes touch each other to show us why resentment and fury against a system are completely valid to survive in a society that doesn’t accept those who are different.

Owner of a unique creative universe in which theatre, classic history and activism coexist, Alana S. Portero debuts in the fiction of this brilliant novel that has become an international editorial phenomena even before its publication.
