La Nau starts the theatrical season with a play about the Víctor Jara’s life

The Aula de Teatre of the Universitat de València starts the programme of this 2017 with “Donde las papas queman” by the company A Tiro Hecho, a play inspired by the life of the Chilean singer-songwriter Víctor Jara and directed by Carla Chillida. This show will be played on 1 and 2 February at the Cultural Centre La Nau and will open the programme of the Matilde Salvador which will approach 15 new productions the next four months.

The theatre programme of the Universitat is added to the events developed by the institution on the occasion of the 80 aniversary of Valencia as the capital of the Republic with two plays: “La carta (1931-1941)”, by the company L’Últim Toc Teatre (on 8 and 9 February), and “Prohibida la reproducción”, by La Col·lectiva Imaginària and the Aula de Teatre of the Universitat (15 and 16 February). Directed by Ramon Moreno and Inma Garín respectively, the plays use personal documents as real basis, as well as the script of the exile dramatist José Ricardo Morales, paying tribute to the first aniversary of his death. 

In April, “El teatro español sacado a la luz de las tinieblas de nuestro tiempo” (days 26 and 27), will present an imagined uchrony by the writer Max Aub where the civil war has never happened and the Second Republic is still in force. The play was conducted by Francisco Alberola for the company Quijada Qaín Teatro. 

The programme of the Aula de Teatre of the Universitat combines experimental shows of young companies with the visit of famous artists. In this quarter is highlighted the appearance of the actress Lola Moltó who obeying the orders of Manuel Maestro and Victoria Salvador, participates in “Assumpció” (day 22 and 23). 

Dance occupies a prominent place too in a video dance session in February with Rafael Ricart (Contactart - Acciones Artísticas Contemporáneas) and will also be there in March and April. First, with the involvement of the choreographer Toni Jódar, in a show that illustrates a historical journey through the dance evolution and in April La Nau will be one of the headquarters of the festival “Dansa València”, that in its 30th aniversary pretends to gather as much professionals as possible both national and international to enjoy dance during four days. 

The classical theatre has also its place in the programme with plays like “Antígona” (Wednesday 8, Thursday 9 and Friday 10 of March), played by Komos, a theatre company conducted by Miguel Navarro and comprised by secondary school students with several awards being the most recent the First National Prize of Tragedy in the XI Contest of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, achieved last January. 

Theatre as a path to social awareness is also a part of the programme. In that way, Doctors without Borders will play “Seguir con vida” (31 March), as a part of a campaign boosted by the NGO with the same name and in which participate 10 actors in a show with music and made through the testimonies and interviews to different members of the medical organization.

As in previous years, the programme will finish in May with the performances of the theatre groups of different levels of the Universitat de València
