The UV promotes a guide to water usage and organises a one-day conference on the biosphere reserves for Green Week

The Office of the Vice-Principal for Sustainability, Cooperation and Healthy Life of the Universitat de València is promoting the publication of a guide to water usage, to celebrate Green Week. The UV is also organising a one-day conference on biosphere reserves.

The EU Green Week aims to raise environmental awareness and debate the European environmental policy. It is organised by the Directorate-General for Environment (ENV) and attracts politicians, famous environmentalists and interested people from all over the world. In 2024, the initiative includes a campaign dedicated to water resilience.

The Office of the Vice-Principal for Sustainability, Cooperation and Healthy Life presents Más claro, Agua – A guide for the healthy and sustainable use of water in the Office of the Principal Assembly Hall at the UV on Friday, 31 May. At 10am Vice-Principal Pilar Serra will give a speech. At 10:30am there will be a lecture on ‘The human right to water and water justice’ (Orig. El derecho humano al agua y la justicia hídrica). At 11:30am there will be a panel discussion on Water and human health, moderated by Dolors Corella (Universitat de València). Finally, at 12:15pm there will be another panel discussion on Water and human health, moderated by Emilio Barba. UV professors María José Estrela (Department of Geography), Javier Armengol (Cavanilles Institute of Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology), Alberto Bouzas (Chemical Engineering) and Águeda Bellver (Department of Applied Economics) will also participate.

Biosphere reserves

Moreover, the Faculty of Geography and History will hold a one-day conference on biosphere reserves on Wednesday, 12 June. The inauguration is scheduled for 9:30am, with the participation of Vice-Principal Pilar Serra and the Ruling Bodies of the Biosphere Reserves of the Alto Turia and the Valle del Cabriel.

The collaboration agreement between the Universitat de València and the ruling bodies will be signed at this event. At 10:15am Secretary of the Spanish Committee of the Man and the Biosphere UNESCO Programme Francisco Cantos will give a presentation on ‘Man and the biosphere UNESCO programme (MaB) and the Spanish biosphere reserves network’ (Orig. El programa Hombre y Biosfera (MaB) de la UNESCO y la Red Española de Reservas de Biosfera).

This will be followed by a lecture on ‘10 years of collaboration between the Universitat de València and the Biosphere Reserves of the Alto Turia: achievements and future challenges’ (Orig. 10 años de colaboración entre la Universidad de Valencia y las Reservas de Biosfera: logros pasados y desafíos futuros), by Co-Director of the AVANT Chair —Valencian anti-depopulation Agenda— and Vice-President of Biosphere Reserves of the Alto Turia Jorge Hermosilla.
