Awareness, training and volunteering

UV Language Sign CourseThe university community should know the practical guidelines which encourage coexistence and communication between diverse people. The university must make these guidelines known and to make people aware of its knowledge, acceptation and use.

Within this programme are promoted and developed training actions, education, assessment and dissemination of contents related to disability, addressed to the university community, as well as the associations, foundations...of the public or private area.

Equally, within this programme are carried out volunteering actions, where, the volunteering students who collaborate with the UPD support to students with disabilities in different actions, which contribute to aware to the rest of the university community on the needs of people with disabilities.

Main awareness activities

Fines awareness campaign

  • Development of awareness campaigns “calls to action”, addressed to all the university community focusing on aspects that can be improved (reserved parking misuse, priority use of some facilities, etc.)
  • Information and news dissemination, grants and aids calls or events of interest.
  • Contact with various organisms, associations, foundations and other social agents in order to regularise the life of people with disabilities.

Main training actions

  • Access to the lift of students in wheelchairsPromotion and participation in diverse training actions, such as: courses, seminars, workshops,... on the circumstances that surround the daily life of people with disabilities, focusing on the university environment.
  • Collaboration in the cultural weeks of the faculties and university schools through the development of courses, round tables, workshops...all these related to the disabilities topics, referring to positive attitudes in human relationships.
  • Training of volunteering students on basic concepts of disabilities, use of support products and adaptation of material. Collaborators will receive the corresponding certificate.

Main actions of the Volunteer

  • Academic support: they provide study support, they carry out material adaptations (Braille, books scanning, video subtitling) and note-taking, through carbonless notebooks and digital pens which are available on the UPD.
  • Personal support: they carry out support tasks within the university facilities (libraries, cafeterias and reprography...).
  • Awareness tasks: they distribute dissemination material, such as symbolic fines, they participate in Campaigns, Sessions, Cultural Weeks...
