L'anàlisi comparativa de la prevalença de la violència contra la dona en les relacions de parella planteja un important conjunt d'interrogants als investigadors. Entre aquests interrogants destaquen les raons que poden explicar les diferències en prevalença entre diversos grups socials definits en funció de les seues característiques demogràfiques o socioeconòmiques (edat, ingressos i educació, país d'origen, etc.), o les raons que poden explicar les diferències en prevalença entre països. La paradoxa nòrdica, terme que es refereix a les altes taxes de prevalença de violència contra la dona als països amb els nivells més alts d'igualtat de gènere, continua sent una de les qüestions més desconcertants en aquest camp d'investigació. A aquest i a altres interrogants que planteja l'anàlisi de la prevalença de la violència de parella es tracta de respondre des de VIO-STRATEGY.
