Gustau Camps

Gustau will teach master classes on «machine learning» all around the world.

The IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (http://www.grss-ieee.org/) is one of the most important professional societies of experts in remote sensing, geoscience and Earth observing in the world.

The society intends to encourage progress in science, technology, applications and training in geoscience, remote sensing and Earth observing from space. It promotes dissemination and information exchange between its members and with the world scientific community, including education of young engineers and scientists. IEEE GRSS society publishes many scientific journals of high impact factor, organises international conferences to which thousands of people attend and also numerous summer schools.

The "IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing: Distinguished Lecturer" programme aims at disseminating progress and advances in the field of remote sensing and involving the international scientific community, in the broadest sense. The programme supports regional and national chapters of the whole world by offering speakers who can inspire and encourage new researchers. Every year, the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society selects up to three «Distinguished Lecturers» (DL). In 2016, one of them has been Professor Gustavo Camps-Valls, Doctor in Physics, professor of the Department of Electronic Engineering (ETSE) and leader of the group «Image and Signal Processing" (ISP), http: / /isp.uv.es, at the Science Park of the Universitat de València.

Prof. Camps-Valls’s contributions are focused on the development of automatic learning algorithms for the analysis of remote sensing data, Earth Observing and Geoscience. He is author of more than 120 articles published in journals, more than 150 presentations, 20 international book chapters and publisher of various international books related to signal processing and machine learning. He has an index h=48 since he entered the ISI list of high-cited researchers in 2011, and Thomson Reuters ScienceWatch identified one of his works as cutting-edge research. In 2015 he received the prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant to progress in the statistic learning of Earth observing data.

Prof. Camps-Valls has been a member of the consultant scientist team of the next MTG-IRS satellite of EUMETSAT, and associate editor of the publications IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, IEEE Signal Processing Letters, IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters, IEEE Selected topics in Signal Processing and IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Magazine. With the recognition of «Distinguished Lecturer» of the IEEE GRS Society, Gustau will teach master classes on machine learning all around the world.
