Talk: Quantum Computer

Date: 22 September 2016 (13:30 h)

Place: Events Hall "Joan Pelechano”

Speaker: Francisco Javier Gálvez (IBM University Ambassator)

Building a quantum computer is one of the technological breakthroughs of the 21st century. Some private companies have already asked for quantum computer prototypes that will be able of carrying out
tasks in a lesser time frame than current classical computers. Nevertheless, with these new systems, it is necessary to create algorithms that are able of taking advantage of all the potential that quantum computing offers. Creating quantum algorithms is not an easy task. In this presentation we will see which quantum algorithms have appeared until now, which are the used methods and where they can apply.

Francisco Javier Gálvez is graduated in Fundamental Physics, Master in Advanced Physics from the Universitat de València and Master in Informatics Management and Direction from the IDE-CESEM business school in Madrid. He works for 15 years in IBM developing several roles in the technical field; he has participated in big IT system implementation projects at a national and international level. Nowadays he works as an architect in the field of Embedded Systems in IBM and develops at the same time the programme of Academic Initiative between IBM and the Universitat de València, and in this framework he has launched different training initiatives during these years such as: Diploma of IBM Great Systems and Specialisation Courses of Data Bases DB2.
