Two Weeks Experience

  • February 13rd, 2017

Last July the student of GIEI, Marc Giner, spent two weeks in London thanks to Two Weeks programme

Two Weeks is an innovative programme for highly motivated university students and graduates who want to enhance their professional opportunities, bringing the business environment closer to students from an eminently practical perspective.

This programme is carried out over two weeks in July, during that time, students have the chance to visit ten prestigious multinational companies so they can make contact first-hand with companies belonging to different sectors, apart from receiving appropriate training in which they will learn necessary aspects regarding to business issues and sales, make an effective CV in both Spanish and English and prepare for job interviews. Finally, the multinational human resource consulting and employment agency, Randstad, promotes the CV of the chosen students in large corporations as additional service, besides promoting it from the organization and the network.

Two Weeks will open the enlistment period the next month of May and the chosen candidates will be able to choose between two destinies: Madrid or London. The coordination between the ETSE-UV of this programme created by Prof. Dr. in Industrial Engineer at the UPV, Antonio Reig, is carried out by the Vice-Dean of the School of Engineer, José Torres.

In the last edition of 2016, a student of the Degree in Industrial Electronic Engineering of the ETSE-UV was one the chosen students for the programme. Marc Giner spent two weeks in London, where he met the internal structure of several multinational companies and learnt how to perform better in the work world. This was his experience:

“I am Marc Giner Alventosa, student of GIEI, and I am going to explain the trip I made the last summer to London, thanks to the Two Weeks programme, organised by Antonio Reig and José Torres País, I am fully grateful to both of them for let me enjoy this unique experience.

For a start, due to this programme I have been able to make a great deal of contacts in multinational companies and visit its headquarters. To this should be added that we were received in all companies by staff of human resources who gave us a clue of how to improve our Cv, how to face job interviews, they also gave us some tips about how to get a job and / or internships through LinkedIn, Infojobs and their own pages. Sincerely, if someone in April or May would have told me that in July I would be at the central office talking with heads of business like Aston Martin, Schneider Electric, Siemens or Scottish Power and that those heads would facilitate me their contact details with no problem I would have never imagined nor believed.

The experience was not only the business visits, but also to create a group of contacts with other students from others engineering or degrees, which is also very nice because they not only make your way of thinking change, but they also, after two intense weeks, turn into friends to who you keep a great friendship.

I also want to add that the fact of traveling to a foreign country, visiting companies in which people is going to talk to you in English, where you have to ask in English and learn how to move through a city which is not your own, leaving your comfort zone, is something beneficial for your own because you have to do everything by your own means and when you are able to ask everything you want and people do understand you, even more when you understand what they are explaining, is the most gratifying feelings to have.

To conclude, I would like to thanks the ETSE and José Torres for providing the experience through scholarship, so if someone is reading this, has doubts about going or not going because of money, do not overthink any longer, first because it is an investment in your future and second because the School of Engineer facilitates the possibility of making this kind of programmes thanks to the scholarships. Also to Antonio Reig for giving us the opportunity to see all those companies and to make contacts.

To all of you, my affectionate greetings

Thank you very much

Yours sincerely,

Marc Giner Alventosa”
