On March 9, 10 and 11 took place in Granada the first edition of the congress SWYP (Student Branch, Women in Engineering and Young Professionals) where nine members of the IEEE Universitat de València Student Branch attended (IEEEsbUV). It was a three days session where the Student Branches of Spain met to share their projects, problems, experiences... and to enjoy the proposed activities.
On Thursday, the reception and the delivery of the welcome kit were carried out. The conference started with a welcome on the part of the Vice-dean of Students of the Faculty of Educational Sciences, Pedro David Chacón, the President of the Section IEEE Spain, Antonio Luque and the organiser of the SWYP, Sulaimane Mezzouji. Then, the presentations of the different branches took place focusing on the scope of activities of spread, projects and union. After these presentations, the voting for the Best Branch IEEE of the Year of the Spain Section was carried out. To finish this session, took place a talk focusing on the job search.
On Friday, the session started with a talk about the WIE, on the part of the president of the IEEEsbUMH and she talked about how to promote the role of women in Engineering. After the coffee break, a round table with the assistants of the School of Telecommunications took place.
On Saturday, they visited the outskirt of the Alhambra where different activities took place. In the afternoon, they visited the Campus Náutico of the University of Granada where they participated in sports activities, and, then, took place a round table where the different branches exposed their major problems and, among others, suggested possible solutions.
At night, took place the Gala dinner and at the end, the results of the voting of Best Branch of IEEE Spain Section were presented. Both, the Branch of the University of the IEEEsbUV and the Miguel Hernández University of Elche won for a draw. This is a great merit award because more than 15 Student Branches of the most important Spanish universities compete. With this prize, is recognised the effort of the Branch of the Universitat de València located at the ETSE-UV, for organising a large number of events and activities such as organising collective projects of students, robotics competitions, seminars and technical workshops, participating in the competition of the programming IEEEXtreme, receiving students of other branches in the ETSE-UV or collaborating in activities of spreading as Expociencia.
The award to Best Branch will be given during the celebration of the next IEEE Day which will take place in the city of Sevilla.
