Paula García and Alba Herrero attend MMYRO, a three-day scientific event for young researchers in Optics
The MMYRO (Mediterranean Meeting of Young Researchers in Optics) is a three-day scientific congress that brings together young researchers and students in optics and photonics to discuss emerging trends. Held in Valencia by OCAS and Photonets, it's the eastern edition of the annual MMYRO in the northwest, organized by OSAL and Luzada, with two previous editions. In this 3-day meeting, focused on Nonlinear Optics (Stefan Wabnitz), Visual Optics (Alba Paniagua), and Optical Imaging (Jingyang Liang), topics such as:
- Professional Development: Talks and presentation sessions for young researchers, as well as discussions with specialized companies. Featuring invited talks by Carlos Doñate and Carlos Navarrete.
- Diversity and Inclusion: A talk on the role of women in optical science to highlight their contributions and promote inclusion in the scientific community, given by Ana López-Navajas from Women's Legacy.
- Mental Health in the Scientific Community: A workshop addressing mental health issues and providing tools for mental well-being during postgraduate research, led by Naiara Martínez Gómez.
- Outreach: Scientific fair with interactive demonstrations and experiences showcasing various optical phenomena. Includes a scavenger hunt and awards ceremony.
During the event, predoctoral researcher Paula García participated with a poster presentation titled "Reinforcing Psychophysics Laboratories through Game-Based Learning in the Optics and Optometry Degree". This work was part of a teaching innovation project in collaboration with the Department of Analytical Chemistry (Faculty of Chemistry).
Additionally, researcher Alba Herrero participated in this event with a Flash Talk titled "Visual Impairment in Parkinson's Disease: A Comparative Analysis of Contrast Sensitivity Across Lighting Environments", where she shared significant results from her doctoral thesis with meeting attendees.
