The Coordinator of the Degree in Optics and Optometry at the University of Palermo (UNIPA), Professor Valeria Militello, visited our University from May 6 to 18.
During this visit, she conducted seminars for third and fourth-year students of the Degree in Optics and Optometry and the Master's in Advanced Optometry and Vision Sciences. She also taught Biophysics, a subject not included in our Degree curriculum, in which she specializes, proving to be of interest to our students. Additionally, she visited the Optometric Clinic of the Lluís Alcanyís Foundation where our students conduct their practical training with patients. There, a meeting took place with representatives of the Clinic and the External Practices of the Degree and the Master's programs to learn about patient work at the UV, and she also had the opportunity to promote the option of doing an Erasmus in Palermo among the first-year Degree students.
On the research level, she had the opportunity to speak with doctoral students from the Department of Optics, Optometry, and Vision Sciences to learn about their research and to visit some of the laboratories of the research groups in Optics and Optometry, as well as to speak with researchers from the department.
During this visit, work continued on the double degree program UNIPA-UV, so that both University of Palermo students and our students can obtain a degree issued by UNIPA and another by UV in four years. A BIP-FORTHEM collaboration between the two universities was also proposed, which will begin to be explored in the coming months.
Taking advantage of the fact that two of our students have applied for an Erasmus at UNIPA next year, a meeting was also arranged between the students and Professor Valeria to clarify firsthand doubts about the learning agreement that must be made before going. We thank Professor Valeria Militello for her visit and her willingness to establish connections between the two universities.
