On December 20, a Christmas science event was held at Andreu Alfaro High School in Paiporta, organized by professors and associate deans of Physics.
At the initiative of Professor Beatriz Martínez from the Department of Thermodynamics and Earth Physics, and with the collaboration of the Associate Deans of Studies Mª Amparo Díez and Mª Jesús Hernández, along with Professors Ana Cros, Martina Delgado, and Chantal Ferrer, a festive Christmas event was held on December 20 at Andreu Alfaro High School in Paiporta, aimed at secondary and high school students. Throughout the morning, the school's students, supervised by their teachers, attended four workshops in different shifts: three focused on physics experiments and one on optometry. They enjoyed and participated in intriguing experiments involving light, sound, mechanics, vision, and low vision. The workshops were conducted and carried out by volunteer staff from the Faculty of Physics, including both students and professors.
The four workshops were as follows:
-
Photon Tamers, led by Professor Martina Delgado from the Department of Applied Physics and Electromagnetism, together with Pablo Ibáñez, Ferran Esteve, and Marina Vidal, undergraduate Physics students and members of the Photonets association.
-
What Do Those Who Cannot See, See?, led by Professor Mª Amparo Díez from the Department of Optics, Optometry, and Vision Sciences, together with PhD candidates Paula García Balaguer and Rosa Vila Andrés.
-
Invisible Forces, led by Professor Ana Cros from the Department of Applied Physics and Electromagnetism, along with PhD students Victor Camús and Parmenio Boronat, and Fernando Macías, a former student of the high school and current Double Degree student in Physics and Chemistry.
-
Physics Demonstration Collection, featuring Adrián Jiménez, Lluis Pérez, Alejandro Ten, and Meritxell García, researchers from the Department of Earth Physics and Thermodynamics, coordinated by Professors Beatriz Martínez and Mª Jesús Hernández.
The Faculty of Physics extends its gratitude to all participants, especially to the principal of Andreu Alfaro High School, Vicente Almenar, and teacher Victor Pérez, for their involvement and dedication. Their efforts made it possible to bring science closer to secondary school students and create a festive atmosphere during the "Long Live Science: Christmas Event at Andreu Alfaro High School in Paiporta," following the difficult experiences brought by the DANA on October 29, 2024.
