Project Mayatech. Innovation, Digitalization, Accessibility and Cultural Identity: The Visual Museum of the Maya Culture

Research project led by Dr Cristina Vidal Lorenzo (PI1) and Dr Mª Luisa Vázquez de Ágredos Pascual (PI2) of the Universitat de València (UV), and Dr Gaspar Muñoz Cosme Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). It is funded by the Valencian government (Generalitat Valenciana), through the programme PROMETEO for research groups of excellence (CIPROM/2023/40). Its main objective is to develop a Virtual Museum of the Maya Culture, an innovative initiative in this digital age that aims to promote cultural identity, social inclusion and universal accessibility, all this applied to preservation, knowledge and dissemination of the Maya cultural heritage.

Promoting integral development for indigenous women in Petén (Guatemala)

The ‘Promoting integral development for indigenous women in Petén (Guatemala)’ project, led by Cristina Vidal Lorenzo and M. Luisa Vázquez de Ágredos, with the local partner Balam Association–NGO, is being developed in the Mopan and Itza communities of Petén (Guatemala). Its main goal is to contribute to the social, economical and cultural development of women of these ethnic groups through the recovery of their cultural traditions and to fight against poverty.

Gender relations, identity and transgenerationality. Interdisciplinary approaches to constructing new narratives of Maya past and present

This project aims to contribute to the understanding of gender relations in the ancient Maya population and their present-day descendants. It employs innovative interdisciplinary, holistic and participatory approaches to highlight the important role of Maya women in social, cultural, economic and political processes that continue to shape memory, identity and community development.

Uxmal project. Grupo de las Columnas (Yucatán, Mexico)

The project is being carried out in Uxmal (Yucatán, Mexico) with the objective of conducting archaeological research in the unexplored areas of the city, including the Grupo de las Columnas.

Women, art and antiquity: breaking clichés

"Women, Art, and Antiquity. Breaking clichés" is a project of the Arsmaya Research Group at the University of Valencia aimed at giving visibility to women in past societies, through the creation of scenes made by artist Érika Meijide Jansen, illustrating the different roles they played, which have generally been silenced by History. To achieve this, we rely on iconographic, archaeological, epigraphic, literary, and ethnohistorical sources, the result of our research work.
