Lines of research

  • Maya art and archaeology. Interventions in the Maya archaeological heritage with the aim of documenting and valorising it, as well as interpreting the changes in social organisation and economic, political and ideological events that took place in ancient times.
  • Iconographic studies and gender perspective in their analysis and interpretation. Analysis and iconographic study of artistic manifestations and documented works, both in the pre-Hispanic Americas and in the Mediterranean. Methodology for their registration, documentation and conservation.
  • Dissemination of cultural heritage. Creation of interpretation centres and museums at archaeological sites. Application of new technologies for the study and dissemination of cultural heritage: laser scanner data collection system, ideal 3D reconstructions, virtual archaeology and augmented reality.
  • Archaeometry of colour in the Maya area. Physicochemical characterisation of mural paintings from the Maya Lowlands. Database of more than 300 samples of wall paintings from Maya palaces in Yucatán and Campeche (Mexico) and Petén (Guatemala). Development of a database of materials and techniques of Maya mural painting.
  • Archaeometry of cosmetics and perfume in ancient Mesoamerica. Physicochemical characterisation of the substances used by ancient Mesoamerican cultures for the preparation of body pigments and perfumes used by the upper social classes. These pigments and perfumes were of great aesthetic, symbolic and ritual importance.
  • Valencian medieval archaeology. Interventions in Valencian historical buildings from the Middle Ages. Documentation and interpretation of their different phases of occupation and study of the remains of medieval culture (ceramics, glass, coins, skeletal remains, etc.).
