Next Friday, 15 December, the Faculty of Geography and History of the Universitat de València will host a public event titled “Land, Water, Life: the rural Palestinian population in the face of occupation”, organised by Mundubat, in coordination with the Office of the Vice-Principal for Sustainability, Cooperation and Healthy Life and the Chair for Sustainable Development of the Universitat de València.
The event will feature an online presentation by Yasmeen EL-Hasan, the Head of Advocacy of the Palestinian organisation Union of Agricultural Work Committees (UAWC), as well as the presence of Josep R. Duato, Organising Secretary of the Coordinadora Labradora del País Valenciano - Coordinadora de Organizaciones Agrícolas y Ganaderas (CCPV-COAG) and Carme Melo Escrihuela, Professor in the Department of Geography at the Universitat de València.
The main objective is to raise awareness about the current occupation and apartheid in the Palestinian territory, especially in the agricultural sector, as well as the negative impact of this occupation on the right to food, access to natural resources and productive activity. It will also address the perspective of women agricultural workers in Palestine and their leading role in the strategies and actions taken by Palestinian civil society to address this situation. Likewise, the internationalist solidarity perspective of the CCPV-COAG, an agricultural organisation that defends a production and consumption model based on small and medium-scale production, as opposed to large farms and monocultures, will be discussed. Lastly, the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Campaign, which seeks to put pressure on the Israeli government to respect international law and the human rights of the Palestinian people, will be explained.
After the discussion, participants can visit the Agro-ecological Market of the Universitat de València, where they will find products from the “Consume Palestine” campaign, offered by the Tenda Tot el Món.
