The ‘Gutiérrez’ journal, published between 1927 and 1934, was one of the most important Spanish humour magazines of the 20th century. Under the management of K-Hito (Ricardo García López, Villanueva del arzobispo, Jaén, 1890 – Madrid, 1984) it had the participation of some of the best artists and writers at the time, members of the other generation of the 27, the humour one, in which we find, among other, Jardiel, José López Rubio, Mihura, Neville or Tono and cartoonists such as Francisco López Rubio or Carlos Gómez among others. ‘Gutiérrez’ shined for its white humour, absurd, based on the de-personalisation and ironic appropriation characteristic of the vanguard, it was the banner of the “new humour”, praised by Ramón Gómez de la Serna.

The exhibition brings us closer to the universe of the ‘Gutiérrez’ magazine and its director K-Hito. Taking as a starting point the travels he organised from Madrid to Valencia to visit the fallas and where these cheerful trips turned the protagonist of the magazine, Juan Gutierres, into a falla ninot (sculpture), who travelled year after year to Valencia while the magazine was active. These travels provide us with information of the rapid development of the festivities and association and cultural entities present in the Valencia of the time, among other things.
