13th International Conference on Research in Art Education

  • October 16th, 2024

Classrooms 1-2, Beatriu Civera Building, Research Institutes, Tarongers Campus UV

Valencia, 7 and 8 November 2024

Jornadas revistas de arte y educación

On these Conferences we analyse the increasing significance that papers published in research journals have acquired, with the intention of reaching interesting conclusions with what this trend supposes in the fields of culture, arts, teaching and the pedagogical use of these publications specialised in art and education. The meeting will allow us to gather in Valencia managers of prestigious journals in the field of academic publications. An increase in the number of publications is confirmed, while at the same time we observe how the already existing one are positioned and new headers are created. We need academic gatherings such as this one so that researchers have face-to-face meetings that promote dialogue and reflection.

The Conferences consolidate the work done by the CREARI group (GIUV2013-103) in recent years, addressing issues regarding art education and visual culture from a pedagogical point of view. They are thought for everyone who, both from a professional or teaching practice perspective, could be interested in analysing the situation and handling future proposals in the field of paper publications, the screening of monographs, team specialisation, and everything regarding the editorial world and the uses and practices we carry out, specially in the fields of arts, education and artistic education. We analyse the novelties and new research approaches that these journals offer. All of this with the support of the Valencian Department of Education, Universities and Employment.

Accessibility to online applications is a key factor in everything related with research publication, as most of them are available online. Another problematic to be analysed is the impact of public universities in this new stage, as almost everything related with research and dissemination is dominated by big multinational corporations which control the research mechanisms. It is a great dissemination ordeal to publish our research through journals which are outside of the traditional channels, as they only take into account the heading that are present in the big research repositories such as WOS, JCR or Scopus. We want to generate an analysis of what is happening with these type of publications, what are the politics managing their dissemination, and how can we, as professionals, influence to improve the current situation, and thus constantly rethink the educational and artistic practices.

Due to our research tradition about image and education, the Creari Research Group on Cultural Pedagogies (GIUV2013-103) from the Universitat de València is ready to accept this academic and university challenge requiring careful and reliable research of what is currently happening and that which we want to improve related to journal publications in the fields of arts and education.
