Informal. Environments for educating in the arts: VII International Seminar on Research in Art Education
Our university is researching educational environments, the transformations we are seeing and the improvements we can introduce in informal spaces for arts education. We, the education professionals, are precisely in a position to give our opinion on this matter. In a debate such as the one we are proposing, we should review what models of space we want for our future students, in order to collaborate with other groups: architects, urban planners, designers, graphic artists, etc.
The Institute of Creativity and Educational Innovations of the University of Valencia, and CREARI Research Group in Cultural Pedagogies (GIUV2013-103) promote the Seminars, counting on the collaboration of the entities that had also collaborated in the VI Seminar, held at the IVAM in February 2015, with great success among the public and with an important academic and media impact. The seminars will be held at the IVAM on Friday 29 April 2016. The participants are university researchers, institutional leaders, teachers, and those people who, both from a professional educational perspective and from the university environment, might be interested in analysing the current situation, reviewing what has been done so far, and above all, in managing future proposals. The success of previous calls for proposals organised by the University Institute of Creativity and Educational Innovations, together with the Department of Didactics of Musical, Plastic and Corporal Expression, endorse this new project.
International conferences such as The Values of Art in Education (in 2000), the International Conference on Museums and Art Education (in 2005), the International Conference on Art, Teachers and Museums (in 2010), or the International Conference on Art Education and Sexual Diversity (in 2015), as well as previous editions of the International Seminar on Research in Art Education (held in 1997, 2002, 2008, 2012 and 2015), have had a significant impact in this field, turning the University of Valencia and our city into an international reference for reflection on these topics linked to educational environments, and especially in museum education and heritage education. The successive investigations have led to a series of publications, among which we highlight the books La Mirada Inquieta, Espacios Estimulantes, Mentes Sensibles, Maestros y museos, Patrimonios Migrantes, Educación Artística y Diversidad Sexual (published by PUV), all of them very well received by a growing public that is more interested in these topics. This initiative also promotes the commemoration of fifteen consecutive editions of the Diploma in Artistic Education and Museum Management, a postgraduate course that is being taught at the University of Valencia together with ADEIT, and that we intend to turn into an international option in the form of a master's degree.
