TRANSITIONS is formed by the teaching staff of different areas of knowledge and departments of the Universitat de Valencia (UV): Teaching and Scholastic Organisation, Developmental and Educational Psychology, Social Psychology and Sociology and Social Anthropology.
Its formal registration is the department of Teaching and Scholastic Organisation. All its members are staff of the Universitat de València or have earned a doctorate in it. In addition, all of them keep contact with teacher and research staff of other Spanish and international universities.
It is a multidisciplinary group that since 1996 has participated in several works and researches, in which different members of the group have taken part. TRANSICIONS has kept and keeps collaboration, through research contracts or collaboration agreements, with the Federation of Insertion Companies Business Associations (FAEDEDI), and the Spanish Association of Second-Chance Schools, the Youth Chair and has carried out commissioned work for Forem-PV, the UAFSE, the Ministry of Education and Professional Training, CaixabankDualiza or the Cedefop.
The group has also take part in the organisation of autonomous meetings and conferences with professionals of social and labour insertion, and has organised in the UV two editions of international conferences and seminars on professional training. TRANSICIONS aims to know educational, organizational, evolutionary and psychosocial processes that have an effect and allow to improve transitions between educational and productive system for young and young-adult people, as well as persons in a vulnerable situation, with difficulties of social labour insertion and history of school failure.
The group is aware of the importance of work in adulthood, as well as of the need of covering their study from multidisciplinary approaches so as to face in a holistic manner the understanding of the reality in which we are interested in and worried about. For this reason, several group members take part in activities of IUDESCOOP. Their mission is contributing, from the University, to identify the mechanisms that ensure education and work rights, from the certainty of the essential role that play in the promotion of social justice.
TRANSICIONS tries to conduct a research of empirical nature in which participants are subjects of the research processes. That is a methodological approach in which qualitative methods are a key part that allow, not only to interact to a certain extent with reality, but also to contribute to making easier its transformation by linking and seeking to link its research with the return of results to professionals and organisations working in practice, as well as in bringing the results to policy actors.
Its research is assessed through this conversation for trying to adjust it to the needs that arise and to the search for social change that it jointly pursues. In order to achieve that, the TRANSICIONS group understands that it is advisable to look for funding for the research work in public calls. In its publications the academic grounds in which their work is based can be identified: Emilia Serra, Francesca Salvà, Claudia Jacinto, María Teresa González, Juan Manuel Escudero, Michael W. Apple, Michael Eraut, Quim Casal, Philipp Gonon, Basil Bernstein, Robert Castel, Serge Paugam, Franz Hamburger, Lorenzo Bonoli, Luc Boltanski and José Gimeno are some examples.
