
The jury recognises, with this award of its 28th edition, the prestigious career and contributions to society of this philosopher, whose work has influenced the contemporary ethical debate, with an approach in the construction of more fair and democratic societies.
Adela Cortina, Ethics and Political philosophy professor at the Universitat de València, was the first woman to become a member of the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences. Nowadays, she is the academic director of the Étnor Foundation, member of the National Committee for Assisted Human Reproduction and member of the Ethical Committee for the Scientific and Technological Research, among other relevant positions.
Within her achievements we can find the creation of a new word: aporophobia. This expression, firstly used by Adela Cortina well over two decades ago to refer to the rejection of poverty and towards those without resources, can be found in the dictionary of the Spanish Royal Academy since 2017.
