The article "El papel de los medios en las democracias deliberativas. Los peligros de la posverdad" (‘The role of media in deliberative democracies. The risks of post-truth) by Enrique Herreras and Carlota Gómez, published in the issue 215 of the journal ‘Estudios filosóficos’, 2025.

It explores the sense in which post-truth emerges as an element that strengthens serious threats to contemporary democracies. Its purpose with this is to delimit both the basis of post-truth and the political role it plays in the arising of ‘illiberal’ democracies, the rise of populism, the growing political and media polarization, and the influential presence of artificial intelligence. It is argued how one of the most relevant methods to give a political answer to this challenge lies in recovering one of the last decade’s proposals within the scope of political philosophy.
Assembling the concept of traditional representative democracy through the adoption of a collective political decision-making process that involves the participation of those potentially affected. This focus is presented based on the principle of deliberation, argumentation, and public discussion, as a possible way of revitalising business, of setting a deliberative democracy for these days.
