The Seasonal Universities programme is coming to Riba-roja de Túria, on 28th September, for its first edition, thanks to the collaboration of the Universitat de València, Riba-Roja de Túria City Council, the Provincial Council of Valencia and Caixa Popular. The theme chosen for the conference will revolve around an endangered species of the river Turia to give support and continuity to what, this year, is already the 3rd conference of La anguila al mar - la angula al Turia (Spanish for The eel to the sea - the elver to the Turia).

The importance of the connection of the river Turia with the sea has been reflected in the recent approval of the PORN (Plan de Ordenación de los Recursos Naturales, meaning Natural Resources Management Plan) of the Turia Natural Park and there is hope that the eel's life cycle will be completed. This vitally important proposal should be prioritised within the urban development planning and municipal design processes of future Municipal Urban Action Plans (PUAM, for its Spanish Acronym) in the 10-year Strategy for Adaptation to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda and in particular of the Economic and Social Recovery Funds of Europe's Next Generation Plan, where the long-term survival of species and habitat types should be ensured, contributing to halting the loss of biodiversity.

This year, however, the day will focus particularly on the biology of the eel in its natural environment and the dangers it faces. Their cultivation as a form of restocking, the diseases that affect them and how they can be combated will be discussed.
