The Universitat de València will be present, once again, in the Valencian territory thanks to the SEASONAL UNIVERSITIES programme, which has remained faithful at all times to Valencian society, bringing the scientific production of the UV to a total of 20 venues throughout the province of València. Thus, we present the 2nd Edition of the Autumn University of Riba-roja de Túria, result of the close collaboration between this city council, the Universitat de València, the Valencian Provincial Council and Caixa Popular. This year, this Seasonal University will host the 6th Conference on Light Pollution under the title: "Towards the decrease of light pollution". DATE: 22 November (9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.).
Light pollution is not only continuously and silently robbing us of the starry sky, but it is also disturbing the ecological balance of living beings and affecting people's health. Excessive night-time lighting also contributes to the environmental collapse of our planet. Time is running out, and it is time to stop light pollution, as illuminated areas are growing at a rate of 2.2% per year worldwide. So far, legislation has timidly tried to curb artificial light at night, but climate change, rising resource costs and the energy crisis are challenging the current model. The draft regional law on the Protection of the Night Environment presented to the Valencian Parliament should promote the necessary reduction in energy consumption and light decontamination.
In this context, the sixth Riba-roja de Túria conference will be organised in two different sessions. In the morning there will be a course aimed at municipal technicians, experts, academics, students and decision-makers to provide the minimum knowledge to control light pollution and propose possible solutions to minimise its effects. On the other hand, in the afternoon session there will be a conference that will bring the general public closer to the problem and show how the cinema deals with it, and finally there will be a presentation of the recent book ”La contaminación lumínica” (”Light Pollution”). The two sessions are organised around the respective thematic round tables, which will feature the points of view of experts from various fields: university, legislative, dissemination and territorial development. After the presentations, the aim is to open a debate with all those attending.
Attendance at this conference is free of charge due to the public nature of the Universitat de València. In order to participate, prior registration is recommended (CLICK HERE TO REGISTER), which will speed up your access to the venue and ensure your seat given the capacity restrictions. In addition, all registered participants will receive a certificate of attendance. For more information, download the programme of the event.
