Lecture by Jaron Rowan, writer and cultural researcher
Open debate with the audience moderated by Raúl Abeledo Sanchis, head of initiatives at the Cultural Observatory of the University of Valencia
At a time when reactionary movements are growing and gaining prominence in various social and geographical contexts, it is essential to ask what role culture plays in these processes. The aim is to assess whether culture truly acts as an antidote to barbarism or whether, on the contrary, some of the values and imaginaries we associate with progressive culture may contain reactionary gestures. This lecture aims to explore how contemporary aesthetic regimes shape ways of feeling, thinking, and inhabiting the present—and how, in this process, they can reproduce subjectivist, punitive, and reactionary imaginaries.
