On 25 April at 18:30, the book "Mujer y entretenimiento en el hogar victoriano” will be presented. The event will take place at the 59th edition of the Valencia Book Fair at the “Espai Fuente Primavera” in the Jardines de Viveros. Among the participants are Miriam Borham from the University of Salamanca, Miguel Teruel from the Universitat de València and Laura Monrós-Gaspar, co-author of the book. Teresa Ferrer, Director of the PUV, will lead the presentation.

The ubiquitous presence of the Victorian household in the cultural production of the 19th Century is undeniable. This is demonstrated in the monograph written in 2003 by Judith Flanders, Inside the Victorian Home, in which the author carries out a small study of the presence of the household in the imaginary of the second half of the century, from the perspective of the consideration of domesticity as a microcosms of the ideal 19th-century society. Taking the theories of Flanders as a basis, the objective of this monograph is to investigate the socio-cultural representation of domesticity from the rupture of the traditional conception of society as a binary space based on the theory of spheres. For this purpose, the household of the middle class of the 19th century as a space of confluence, intersections and connections between the public and the private is taken as a starting point. With these considerations, the public function of the domestic will be studied from a variety of prisms related to the feminine condition and the possibilities of the different industries of entertainment in the 19th century in Great Britain.
