Blackface y otras vergüenzas.
A creation by Silvia Albert Sopale
The term Blackface in English refers to white people who paint their faces black, creating a caricature of Black people. Contrary to what is often believed, this practice did not originate in the 19th-century American minstrel shows; in Spain, during the Golden Age theatre period, there were already Black characters who were mocked.
In this performance, Silvia Albert Sopale offers her critical perspective on the “official history” of the Afro-descendant community in Spain. Drawing on celebrations and events that are considered racist, the creator seeks to question them and highlight how they shape the cultural imagination of society.
Through various characters and situations, the audience will be able to connect with the emotions and feelings of a community that has been silenced and is still ridiculed today.
