This group consists of researchers in social sciences didactics, with a focus on geography and history. Our main objective is to identify problems in the teaching and learning of social sciences and propose solutions to address them in formal, non-formal and informal education. For this reason, we conduct research on teacher training and develop proposals for improvement. We also investigate the skills that young people and teachers should acquire during compulsory and post-compulsory education. In addition, our research focuses on the study of argumentation and critical thinking in the teaching of social sciences, curricular obstacles in the learning of geographical space historiography, identities and the teaching of historical time.
The Research Group aims to reveal the mechanisms that organise the functioning of societies in different places and times, both past and present. This aims to challenge social hypocrisy that disguises content far removed from human concerns as distinguished culture. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to understand the reasoning of both students and teachers, which is clearly influenced by socio-cultural, emotional and affective factors. Therefore, this group aims to shed light on the subjects that make citizens’ education possible. Consequently, research activities will be closely linked to proposals for educational innovation. We will follow the pathway of curricular projects that have been consolidated for more than twenty years, such as Gea-Clío. Local groups of teachers from different educational levels will be formed to link initial and ongoing training.
