An educational escaperoom or BreakoutEDU is a gamification activity in which students have a mission to overcome. In the educational environment, the challenge is to open or unlock locks (codes or passwords) that will help them to solve a series of puzzles or tests in a given time. It can be carried out both in the physical classroom and online, and the work is done in teams. As in any gamified activity, a brief narrative is required to contextualize the missions and give meaning to the challenge posed, while transforming students into characters who play a role and defend one or more values in the service of a noble cause: that is, the common thread is a story (storytelling) that has to connect with the students. BreakoutEDU is a very immersive educational experience, since the missions or tests to be overcome include a series of educational content that must be overcome to achieve the final prize.
Among the advantages of the educational escaperoom are the following:
- It can be adapted to any curricular content, both as an assimilation of concepts and for the development of skills or attitudes.
- It promotes collaboration and teamwork, since, in order to solve the challenge or mission, a great cohesion among group members is needed.
- Critical thinking and problem solving skills are developed through negotiation.
- Verbal competence is improved, in the process of facing a situation in which they have to transmit ideas, structure their speech, express themselves...

- Autonomous and meaningful learning is encouraged.

- Se fomenta el aprendizaje autónomo y significativo.
- Tiene un componente lúdico al tiempo que educativo.
