The cardinal points are more than just a geographical concept. In the European imaginary, there are representations, collectively constructed in a long process of fixation and crystallised in a symbolic universe, that evoke images of the South ranging from the happy Arcadia of the classical antiquity to the tourist paradises of the 20th and 21st centuries.
This is the starting point of the international congress ‘The construction of the South in the European imaginary: the other borders’, which will take place from 2 to 4 May 2013 in the MuVIM auditorium.
The congress is organised by the Intercultural Relations Germany–Spain Research Grup (RIALE) of the Universitat de València, in collaboration with the Valencia Provincial Council and the Universitat Politècnica de València.
