This Workshop is organised by the Foundation Nexo in collaboration with the Linguistic Rights Chair of the Universitat de València.

The Vé Workshop about Identity and Culture for next day 17 Octuber will have as its central theme the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages as a text that pretends to protect the different languages that are spoken along the European territory. The more than 200 languages spoken in Europe present situations of demographic, politic and social character which condition in a direct way, as well as the population and the communities that speak them. The possible imbalance that can appear in these situations control the Council of Europe who is in charge of approving the European Charter for Regional and Minority Languages with the objective to achieve the legal protection of these languages that do not have in a state level and promote the use in all the social fields.

This Workshop intends to analyse the theoretical foundations, achieved results and the future challenges that the Charter suggests and, the opening in a debate on questions that will go from the conceptual foundations and terminology that uses the Charter, until the analysis of each language and the particular reports, going through the efficiency of those reports or their impact in the public opinion in each state member.

To deal with this questions we have reunited some experts in various minoritized languages who will contribute other sociolinguistic contexts that will offer us an essential overview to improve towards a plural and fair Europe.
