Call for applications for the Chair for Linguistic Rights and 2020 Carme Miquel Awards

Today, 20 October 2020, the calls for the 2020 Chair for Linguistic Rights and 2020 Carme Miquel awards have been published in the DOGV.

These research awards of the Chair for Linguistic Rights of the University of Valencia aim to promote studies on the linguistic rights of minority language users, as well as the guarantee and real materialisation of these rights.

Carme Miquel 2020 Awards

The Carme Miquel 2020 Awards are open to undergraduate degree final projects and master's degree final projects approved at any Spanish public university.

Students of any official degree at Spanish universities who have passed an undergraduate degree final project or a master's degree final project in any official language of the autonomous communities of Spain or in English, in the academic year 2019/2020, between 1 October 2019 and 30 September 2020, are eligible to participate.

To be eligible to participate, the projects must focus on the theoretical foundations and strategies or measures for the materialisation and real guarantee of linguistic rights from the following themes: linguistic human rights, linguistic equality, multilingualism, linguistic public policies, sociolinguistics, linguistic minorities, legal and administrative language, and the psychology of language. Projects on languages, literature, linguistics and general language didactics, as well as those dealing marginally with the theoretical foundations and strategies for the realisation and guarantee of linguistic rights, are excluded from the competition.

Call and applications

Applications may be submitted from the day after the publication of the call for applications in the Diari Oficial de la Generalitat Valenciana until 30 October 2020 at 14:00.

2020 Chair for Linguistic Rights Awards

The 2020 Chair for Linguistic Rights Awards are open to doctoral theses approved cum laude at any Spanish public university.

Students of any official degree at Spanish universities who have passed a doctoral thesis with cum laude mention in any official language of the autonomous communities of the State or in English, in the academic year 2019/2020, between 1 October 2019 and 30 September 2020, are eligible to participate.

To be eligible to participate, theses must focus on the theoretical foundations, strategies or measures for the materialisation and real guarantee of linguistic rights in the following areas: linguistic human rights, linguistic equality, multilingualism, linguistic public policies, sociolinguistics, linguistic minorities, legal and administrative language, and the psychology of language.
