On Tuesday 2 May, Vicenta Tasa, co-present of the Chair, will moderate the debate “Languages in the US: Somewhere between persecution and resistance” within the framework of Valencia’s Book Fair. The event will be hosted by Àngels Gregori, writer and director of the Poefesta, and will take place at 7:15pm in Museum Hall 2. Yuri Herrara, Dejanira Álvarez and José Higuera will be in attendance.

Yuri Herrera holds a degree in Political Science from the UNAM and is specialized in creative writing. He is the author of the award-winning novels, Trabajos del Reino, Otras voces, otros ámbitos and La transmigración de los cuerpos. He is currently an adjunct professor at the Tulane University in New Orleans.

Dejanira Álvarez is the general coordinator of the New York City archive, library and Book Fair--three initiatives that pertain to the Institute of Mexican Studies at the City University of New York (CUNY). Among others, she has aided in the creation of FILMINIST, the first film festival for women in the Mexican film industry, and has managed the communication of renowned sporting and cultural events, such as the first Mexican Superenduro world championship.

Lastly, José Higuera López, president of the CUNY and the New York City Book Fair, has done an excellent job in collaborating with the Mexican and Mexican-American students and helping them navigate the academic environment. He has also worked with local institutions and communities to expand opportunities and build partnerships with Mexican universities.
