The Chair of Linguistic Rights published On Compliance with the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages, a book written by Fernando Ramallo, full-time university professor of General Linguistics at the University of Vigo, in which he delves into the processes of linguistic minoritisation and the interactions between language, politics and society, as well as their consequences. The book is divided into six parts, stressing the case of the Spanish state as well as the possibilities arising from the new ratifications of the Charter.
The author established a classification of minoritised languages whose states ratified the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages through an analysis of the findings in the monitoring reports drawn up by the Committee of Experts. In order to achieve this, the book focuses on the concept of linguistic minority as well as the exploration of aspects both quantitative and quantitative, in order to unmask the processes behind it and propose actions that work to help overcome the same condition of minoritisation by hegemonic material conditions.
